Please continue to support your child to continue a love of reading. We encourage the children to read five times per week and record this into their reading records. These should be handed in every Friday and the children`s reads are counted and put onto our reading display. We have a wide range of books, from different authors and genres to read in our classroom and the children are welcome to take these home if they would like to. The children can also access Reading Plus at home to further develop their comprehension and vocabulary knowledge. Please contact me if you struggle to access this.

More importantly enjoy your reading time!

Description automatically generatedThroughout year 5 we continue to deepen our understanding of place value, as well as addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. Deepening our understanding enables us to apply this knowledge to more complex problems with greater confidence and resilience during our maths lessons, please keep up practice on times tables at home.

The children can access Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at home to either challenge themselves or to just continue to practice.

Handwriting

During all of our lessons we continue to focus on a high standard of presentation. The children are encouraged to join their letters. We have weekly handwriting sessions and continue to practice letter formation. As a school we have purchased a handwriting program called Letter-Join. Graphical user interface

This is an online platform that the children can access at home. Common exception words for year 5 are uploaded so the children can practice their spellings while also practicing their handwriting.

Spelling

Year 5 common exception words are sent home and can be found in your child`s homework book. We teach some of our spelling lessons using Scode, the scheme builds on children's existing phonics knowledge by introducing them to more complex sounds and codes. Through the 'Power of Practicing' and daily re-caps the children build on their knowledge as the scheme progresses.

PE Days

PE for year 5 is usually on a Monday afternoon with PE coaches from Caistor Yarborough.

Please ensure full kit is in school at all times and our uniform policy is adhered to for health and safety.

Spanish

In year 5 we learn Spanish; the children are taught to say everyday items and are now beginning to put these into a sentence and be able to conversate with one another using the Spanish language.
