Our Year 3 class is called Ash Class – named to promote a calm, natural environment and representing growth, grounding, and connection to the world around us.
Curriculum Learning
In Ash Class, we learn about many exciting periods in our history. We love researching the archaeological discoveries which inform our learning of the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Iron Age. Later in the year we turn our attention to the Ancient Egyptians, a fascinating period, full of treasures and intrigue. Our Geography curriculum teaches us about volcanoes and earthquakes and then takes us on a journey of discovery around beautiful Italy. In RE we learn about Hinduism and enjoy a fantastic visit from Sunita to deepen our learning. In Art, we are inspired by nature , the world around us and an exploration of a variety of painting techniques. WOW, what an exciting year ahead we have planned!
Reading at Home – reading books build knowledge, expand the imagination, and unlock freedom through lifelong learning!
Please support your child to continue to share their love of books. We encourage the children to read/share books at least 5 times per week. They should record their reads in their Reading Record. Reads will be tallied, and certificates awarded for 25, 50, 75, 100 and more reads. Reading should be a delightful experience and we encourage you to revisit and re-read favourite books and stories. The children can also access Reading Plus at home to further develop their comprehension and vocabulary knowledge. Please contact me if you struggle to access this. More importantly enjoy your reading time!
Maths Fluency and Times Tables
Throughout year 3 we continue to delve deeper into our understanding of place value, as well as applying this knowledge to addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. Furthering our understanding enables us to apply this knowledge to more complex problems with greater confidence and resilience during our maths lessons, please keep up your practice on times tables at home.
The children can access Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS), which is a fun app that aids recall of facts, at home to either challenge themselves or to just continue to practice.
PE
PE for year 3 is usually on a Monday morning with PE coaches from Caistor Yarborough. Please ensure full outdoor/indoor kit is in school at all times and our uniform policy is adhered to for health and safety. Long hair should be tied back please, and children should have no earrings in for PE. Please label ALL uniform and PE kit items.
Spanish
In Year 3 we begin to learn Spanish; the children are taught how to say everyday items and how to put these into a sentence to enable them to have conversations with one another using the Spanish language.
Forest School
Year 3 participate in weekly Forest School sessions. We explore the natural world around us, using our senses to observe signs of change, growth and living creatures. We use natural resources to create and make art, we plant seeds and bulbs, we care for the environment, and we love working collaboratively on projects to complete any challenge that has been set.
Singing sessions
Year 3 participate, alongside Year 4, in weekly singing sessions with a visiting teacher called Gillian Pearson. We enjoy practicing new songs and learning different singing techniques.
Homework in Year 3
- Each week the children will be set English and Maths homework relevant to what they have been learning in class the previous week.
- Each half term home-learning will be set with relevance to the terms topic (History, Geography, Religious Education, Art, Design and Technology or Science) as a practical or recall activity. Knowledge Organisers and Newsletters will be provided to aid the completion of the learning challenges at the beginning of each half term.
- Please aim to read five times a week. This really helps children to practise their reading skills. Reading Plus APP can also be accessed for reading development.
- Children all have a TT Rock Stars account. This game style platform encourages children to learn to recall times tables in a fun way. We would love it if children can practise at home whenever they have a little spare time.
