Reading
Please continue to support your child to continue a love of reading. We encourage the children to read five times per week and record this into their reading records. These should be handed in at least once a week to enable us to count your child’s reads and add to our records. We have a wide range of books, from different authors and genres to read in our classroom and the children are welcome to take these home if they would like to. The children can also access Reading Plus at home to further develop their comprehension and vocabulary knowledge. Please contact me if you struggle to access this. More importantly enjoy your reading time!
Maths Fluency
Throughout year 3 we continue to delve deeper into our understanding of place value, as well as applying this knowledge to addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. Furthering our understanding enables us to apply this knowledge to more complex problems with greater confidence and resilience during our maths lessons, please keep up your practice on times tables at home.
The children can access Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at home to either challenge themselves or to just continue to practice.
Handwriting
During all of our lessons we continue to focus on a high standard of presentation. The children are encouraged to join their letters. We have weekly handwriting sessions and continue to practice letter formation. As a school we have purchased a handwriting program called Letter-Join.
This is an online platform that the children can access at home. Common exception words for year 3 are uploaded so the children can practice them whilst also practicing their handwriting.
Spelling
Year 3 common exception words are sent home via DOJO. We teach our spelling lessons using Scode, the scheme builds on children's existing phonics knowledge and then introduces them to more complex sounds and codes. Through the 'Power of Practicing' and daily re-caps the children build on their knowledge as the scheme progresses.
PE Days
PE for year 3 is usually on a Tuesday morning with PE coaches from Caistor Yarborough.
Please ensure full kit is in school at all times and our uniform policy is adhered to for health and safety.
Spanish
In year 3 we learn Spanish; the children are taught how to say everyday items and how to put these into a sentences to enable them to have conversations with one another using the Spanish language.
Forest School
Year 3 participate in weekly Forest School sessions. We explore the natural world around us, using our senses to observe signs of change, growth and living creatures. We use natural resources to create and make art, we plant seeds and bulbs, we care for the environment, and we love working collaboratively on projects to complete any challenge that has been set.
Singing sessions
Year 3 participate, along with Year 4, in weekly singing sessions with a visiting teacher called Gillian Pearson. We enjoy practicing new songs and learning different singing techniques.
