Reading

Please continue to encourage your child to read at least 5 times per week, these can be school reading books, home reading books and any other opportunities that challenge your child’s reading skills. Reading records are collected weekly and reads counted and displayed on the classroom chart. Children may also access Reading Plus, to develop reading and comprehension skills - please contact us if you struggle to access this. Reading should be a delightful experience and we encourage you to revisit and reread favourite books and stories with your children. Remember, regular readers become happy readers and happy readers become confident readers.

Maths Fluency

In Year 3, we further develop our knowledge of place value and deepen our understanding of addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers and using exchanges.

We use ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ (TTRS) to learn, practice and compound our knowledge of all times tables. The ability to recall these facts more confidently is hugely beneficial to your child in their Maths lessons.

We consolidate our understanding of ‘Days of the Week’, ‘Months of the Year’ and telling the time using both digital and analogue clocks.

We work with money, recognising and finding coins that make different amounts.

We also use ‘Maths Shed’, it is a useful tool that can help to increase our children's maths fluency, if you struggle to access, please get in touch.

Handwriting

As a school we have purchased a handwriting programme called Letter-Join, www.letterjoin.co.uk . This has an online platform that children can access at home. Common exception words for year 1 are uploaded so the children can combine their learning of spellings with their handwriting practice.

Spelling

Common exception words for year 3 can be found on Class Story on Dojo and in their homework books. We also use ‘Spelling Shed’ to practice various spelling rules and the common exception words.

PE Days

Year 3 PE usually happens on a Monday morning with PE coaches from Caistor Yarborough. Please ensure that children have a full PE kit in school all week, including indoor and outdoor kits for colder weather to allow for flexibility. Long hair should be tied back, and earrings removed as outlined in the school’s uniform policy on our website.

Spanish

In Year 3, we are learning Spanish, we practice everyday words and phrases in exciting and fun ways.
